Biblioventures: Monsters and Ghosts

Join us on a new Biblioventure with two six-part series of haunted works of the nineteenth century: Robert Louis Stevenson’s Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. First, we’ll investigate Stevenson’s gothic masterpiece about a gentleman doctor whose strange experiments to eradicate the evil impulses of all mankind lead to the creation of a brutal monster. Then, we’ll explore Dickens’ ghostly tale of a man haunted by not just spirits, but also his own past and future yet to come. Host Edward G. Pettit and a rotating group of cohosts will have a conversational annotation each week, providing context and insight about the authors and their characters, and showcasing remarkable Rosenbach collection objects along the way, including our first editions of both featured novels.
